Short Term Missions
Although Pioneers is focused on placement of long term workers, we also have many options for shorttermers.
Short term service is intended to enable you:
- to get to know the area and the people with your own eyes
- to gain cross-cultural experience
- to discover whether God is calling you to long term missions
- to allow long term workers to have more time for their outreach
- to help with a specific project.
There are prepared programs of a few weeks and internships for students of bible schools and missions training, but we can also arrange a deployment from one month up to one year. You can use your knowledge and skills for practical service in existing projects.
We also make field visits and they are a special type of short term mission trip. These are usually 2 week trips with a maximum of 8 people. During the visit we will roll up our sleeves to do something practical that would cost the long term missionary a lot of time if he/she had to do it him/herself, such as light construction. We also spend time praying for the project, soaking up the culture of the country and even relaxing a bit. Of course we also have opportunity to talk with the missionaries about their work. Trips are usually made in spring or summer.
To join a trip, you need:
- to speak English to a reasonable degree
- to be a Christian
- to be at least 18 years old
- wanting to roll up your sleeves
- wanting to adapt to the local circumstances
- to accept the instructions of the leadership of the field visit
- to have a valid passport
- to pay for travel and accommodation expenses yourself (or from donations)
Timely registration is necessary in view of vaccinations, visas, and appropiate organization of the field visit.
During the summer holidays, some Pioneers mobilization offices organise short term field excursions called Edge. Sometimes it is a group of young people, sometimes even a whole family. It may be possible for you to join a short term team composed of people sent through the Edge programs of various other Pioneers mobilization offices.
It is important that you are motivated to serve Jesus and the unreached peoples with the gifts and talents God has given you. Mission is about serving.
Usually during a short term trip, participants are not expected to become fluent in the local language. However, a reasonable knowledge of English is needed because our teams normally communicate in English. We also expect that you will go with a humble attitude to learn from and about the long term workers and the local culture.
The application procedure for short term sending is similar to that for long term. However, the process for short term trips is usually shorter and has fewer requirements than that for long term, depending on the duration of the short term. Therefore, you can also a look at the long term webpage.
Experiencing missions tells you more than a picture or a thousand words. Seize the opportunity to be a blessing to others and at the same time discover more about God’s plan for you.
